Your Guide to Virtual Organizing: What to Expect and How It Works
If your to-do list is a mile long and organizing projects keep getting pushed to “someday,” you’re not alone. Like many of my clients, you are juggling a full schedule, managing a busy home, and need focused time (and a little support) to get things done.
So, you’ve decided you need help to get organized. That’s a great first step! Now, how to know whether you need in-person organizing or virtual organizing sessions?
If you’re a self-starter but you need accountability to get things done, virtual organizing might be a fit for you. Virtual organizing is the DIY version of onsite organizing, and offers a clear plan and a reason to carve out time for that organizing project you keep putting off.
To help you decide, here’s what sets virtual organizing apart from traditional in-person sessions.
What is Virtual Organizing?
Virtual organizing is a partnership that combines your energy with my tried and true organizing systems and strategies. This means having a partner to help you break down, strategize and approach an organizing project. All the expertise and experience I bring to in-person sessions, I bring to you remotely as well. You’ll do it yourself, but not alone!
It also offers more flexibility, as sessions can be scheduled at odd hours if needed. Virtual organizing is also less expensive than in-person organizing.
How is Virtual Organizing the same as In-Person Organizing?
- The process I use is the same.
- The exact same intake and approach is used, whether in person, or remote.
- The learning, connecting and sharing of expertise and knowledge is the same.
- You are provided the same emotional support while you are sorting and processing your belongings.
- Space planning and product recommendations are provided in both in-person and virtual sessions.
How is Virtual Organizing Different than In-Person Organizing?
Simple: You are doing the physical work!
How does it work?
Preparing for virtual organizing sessions is easy peasy.
- No tech savvy needed – I like to keep it simple with FaceTime or Zoom
- A smart phone, tablet, or computer is needed
- No need to shop for tools or supplies in advance – you likely have everything you need: trash bags, post it notes and sharpies.
During the session:
You will need to keep the phone, tablet or computer propped up so it can provide me with a view of the space, without a lot of motion. It’s usually easy to just prop it up. No stand necessary, but if you have one, great.
After the session:
Once we’re done, you’ll simply need to toss the trash, load donations in your car and then relax. You can use the plan we create to continue at any time, at your own pace.
When Would In-Person Organizing Sessions be a Better Choice?
While virtual organizing is a great option for many, some projects do benefit from hands-on support. Organizing can be physically demanding (lifting boxes, moving furniture, sorting through heavy items) especially when you’re working through years of accumulation or tackling multiple rooms. If you’re feeling highly overwhelmed by clutter or facing a large organizing job, in-person sessions may be the better choice.
Shall we do this together? Let’s make your space – and your energy – work for you!
